After the jungle had been cleared on the fallow land called Anderegewatta and the horoscope permitted, in autumn 1984 construction of a private house was begun.

The name Bogenvillya is derived from the gracefully flowering plant bougainvillea. The architecture is a combination of Sri Lankan style and European influences. In 1992 the neighbouring plot of land with a building was acquired for an educational project and adapted as a school. In 1995 Bogenvillya and the whole property was handed over to the one world foundation.

The guest house Bogenvillya is 70 km to the south of Colombo on the west coast of Sri Lanka. The spaciously laid out garden with a swimming pool and access to the beach and the building with terraces, loggia and lounge open up the splendour of the landscape and at the same time allow relaxation in a private atmosphere. In 2001 a building on stilts with double rooms designed by the architect Carl Pruscha was constructed by the lagoon. The Bogenvillya facilities are made up of various living areas, the Ayurveda therapy rooms, the office, a secluded yoga and meditation garden with an open hall, a spacious garden and a small lagoon. Birds, reptiles and mongooses can be observed.
The living areas are the main building and the adjacent bungalow. The ten individually varied living units provide all luxurious comforts and all have WC, warm water and shower. The comprehensive personal care of the one world foundation staff and the quality, balanced cuisine of the house combine all the advantages of a small unit with a high standard of quality.

W.A. Chamil Priyantha and A. Wasantha de Silva, our cooks, prepare all meals fresh every day according to Sri Lankan and Ayurvedic recipes. The wide variety of fruit, vegetables and seafood as well as the wealth of spices make each meal a special experience. Upon request W.A. Chamil Priyantha will prepare your meals in consultation with Dr. Perera according to your individually prescribed Ayurvedic diet.

The Bogenvillya infrastructure offers an exclusive opportunity for the relaxation of mind and body to a growing circle of European travellers and is increasingly seen as a communication platform for intellectual dialogue between the guests. The influences of landscape, culture and the opportunity of Ayurveda therapy stimulate the intuition and often lead to interesting and relevant reflections on contemporary life.

All the facilities around Bogenvillya guest house in Wathuregama were severely damaged by the tsunami on 26 December 2004 and partly or completely destroyed. The vegetation also suffered under the force of the tidal waves and the salt water but the tropical climate allows the plants to bloom again quickly.

The reconstruction of Bogenvillya with owf administration offices and guest facilities lasted the whole year and was completed in December 2005 and since then we have been able to offer guests a warm welcome to Wathuregama.
