Perahera-Fest, Anbau Provisorium Balapitya und 10-Jahresfeier

Liebe Freundinnen und Freunde, Unterstützerinnen und Unterstützer!

Der Wiederaufbau der durch den Tsunami im Dezember 2004 zerstörten Schuleinrichtungen der one world foundation (owf) free education unit in Sri Lanka schritt auch über den Sommer zügig voran, und der provisorische Schulbetrieb wurde weiter ausgebaut.

Das Schulprovisorium in der Walauwe (Haus aus der Kolonialzeit) in Balapitya wurde erneut durch einen offenen Anbau für eine Klasse von 25 Kindern erweitert, um dem hohen Bedarf an Schulplätzen besser gerecht zu werden. Aufnahmetests für die nächsten Computerkurse wurden durchgeführt, es gab rund 200 BewerberInnen, die derzeitige Kapazität gestattete nur 70 Aufnahmen. Der Sportunterricht konnte wieder aufgenommen werden, ebenso der Musikunterricht, nachdem durch den Tsunami zerstörte Musikinstrumente ersetzt werden konnten. Mit dem im Juli gefeierten alljährlichen Perahera-Fest, ein Umzug der Schulkinder mit traditionellen Tänzen und Kostümen, das unter Einbeziehung der engagierten Eltern vorbereitet wird, kehrte ein weiteres Stück Normalität zurück. Einen Tag nach dem Perahera-Fest wurde auf dem provisorischen Schulareal in Balapitya das zehnjährige Bestehen der one world foundation im Rahmen einer buddhistischen Zeremonie gefeiert. Die Doppelschul-Unit: Prototyp auf der Baustelle und architektonisches Modell

Trotz Regenzeit ging der Wiederaufbau des neuen Hauptcampus in Ahungalla zügig voran. Das Marschland wurde weiter aufgeschüttet und geebnet. Am 4. Juli erfolgte (Datum und Uhrzeit wurden traditionell durch das Horoskop festgelegt) die Grundsteinlegung für den Bau des Schulcampus. Aufgrund von Erfahrungswerten mit einem Prototypen einer Doppel-Schulunit konnte der Bauverlauf genau geplant und mit dem Bau weiterer Schulunits bereits begonnen werden. Parallel zum Wiederaufbau in Ahungalla schreitet die Wiederinstandsetzung des owf-Haupthauses Bogenvillya in Wathuregama voran. Die Arbeiten sollen im Dezember 2005 abgeschlossen sein. Die one world foundation kann dann Besucher wieder herzlich willkommen heißen!

Perahera, temporary arrangement in Balapitya, celebration 10 years owf

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Reconstruction of the school facilities of the one world foundation(owf) free education unit in Sri Lanka that were destroyed by the tsunami in December 2004 have also made rapid progress over the summer and provisional school operations have been further expanded.

Temporary provisions in Walauwe (colonial house) in Balapitya were again extended with an open extension for a class of 25 children in order to better meet the high demand for places. Entrance tests for the next computer courses have been carried out. There were around 200 applicants, our current capacity allows for only 70 admissions. Sports training has been resumed, as well as music lessons after the instruments destroyed by the tsunami could be replaced. Another piece of normality returned with the annual Perahera Festival, celebrated in July, a procession of schoolchildren with traditional dances and costumes, prepared with the participation of committed parents. One day after the Perahera Festival the ten-year existence of the one world foundation was celebrated at the temporary school site in Balapitya as part of a Buddhist ceremony. prototype, main campus in Ahungalla

Despite the rainy season, reconstruction of the new main campus in Ahungalla has made speedy progress. The marshland has been further filled and levelled. On 4 July (date and time are traditionally determined by the horoscope) the laying of the foundation stone for the building of the school campus took place. Because of our experience with a prototype of a double school unit, the construction schedule could be exactly planned and the construction of further school units has already begun. Parallel to reconstruction in Ahungalla the repair of the owf main building Bogenvillya is making progress. Work should be finished in December 2005. The one world foundation will then again be very pleased to welcome visitors.
