newsletter mai 2010 Liebe Freundinnen und Freunde, Unterstützerinnen und Unterstützer, der 29. März 2010 war ein wichtiger Tag für die one world foundation. Im Rahmen eines großen Schulfestes, der „Memorandum of Understanding Signing Ceremony“ mit musikalischen und tänzerischen Darbietungen von Schüler/inne/n, wurde der Kooperationsvertrag zwischen der owf und der National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority – NAITA unterzeichnet (http://www.naita.slt.lk). Die NAITA ist eine staatliche Organisation zur Förderung von Berufsausbildungsprogrammen in Sri Lanka, die Kooperation bedeutet das Öffentlichkeitsrecht für wesentliche Bereiche der one world foundation – free education unit. Die Lehrpläne und Prüfungen der Englisch- und Computerklassen werden forthin kontinuierlich von der NAITA evaluiert, was die öffentliche Anerkennung der Zeugnisse garantiert. Unser Dank gilt nicht zuletzt dem Minister für berufliche und technische Ausbildung („Hon. Minister of Vocational and Technical Training“), Piyasena Gamage, und dem Vorsitzenden der NAITA, Amal Senalankadhikara, die der festlichen Zeremonie beiwohnten. Am 7. April folgte mit den Feiern zum singhalesischen und tamilischen Neujahr („Aluth Avurudu“) ein weiteres wunderschönes Schulfest. Der Tradition folgend wurden auf dem Schulgelände etliche kleine Häuschen aus Bambus und Palmblättern gebaut, die symbolisch für das neue Jahr stehen und Zeremonien dienen. Es wurden traditionelle Spiele gespielt und Süßigkeiten serviert, die sich nicht nur die festlich gekleideten Schulkinder gut schmecken ließen... Der Nachmittag war geprägt von einer musikalischen Aufführung mit Chor und Tänzer/inne/n. Bereits am 20. März fand im Atelier der one world foundation die Ausstellung „for one world“ mit Arbeiten des Künstlers Marcus Geiger statt, die im Rahmen des Artist-in-Residence-Programms in Kooperation mit der Galerie Krinzinger (http://www.galerie-krinzinger.at) in der one world foundation entstanden waren. Im Februar und März 2010 hatte der Künstler in Sri Lanka Arbeiten geschaffen, ausdrucksstarke Gemälde, Objekte und eine Serie von außergewöhnlichen „Kossas“ (Besen). Die Arbeiten sind eine gelungene Synthese europäischen Backgrounds mit srilankischen Einflüssen. Am 9. Mai fand in Wien eine Ausstellung mit Fotos von Student/inn/en der owf statt, die diese im Rahmen eines Foto-Workshops unter der Leitung des Fotografen Laurent Ziegler in Sri Lanka gemacht hatten (siehe: http://www.owf.at/de/f-akt.html#3 und http://www.sitedefinition.at/fileadmin/paint4life). Die Ausstellung wurde von Paint for Life organisiert (www.paint4life.at), unter den Gästen befand sich auch der „Minister/Deputy Chief of Mission“ in Österreich, Srimal Wickremasinghe. Und wir freuen uns auch in der Nebensaison auf Ihren Besuch! newsletter may 2010 Dear friends and supporters, March 29 was an important day for one world foundation: During a “Memorandum of Understanding Signing Ceremony” at the school which was accompanied by musical and dance performances by the students, an agreement of co-operation was signed between one world foundation and the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA/http://www.naita.slt.lk). NAITA is a state organisation for the promotion of vocational training programmes in Sri Lanka. The co-operation means that certain important areas of the one world foundation – free education unit are now officially recognised as part of the national education system. From now on the curricula and exams of our English and computer courses will be evaluated on a regular basis by NAITA thereby guaranteeing public recognition of the certificates. We would like to express our gratitude to Mr Piyasena Gamage, the Hon. Minister of Vocational and Technical Training, and to Mr Amal Senalankadhikara, the President of NAITA, who participated in the ceremony. On April 7 another school festivity took place in celebration of the Singhalese and Tamil New Year (“Aluth Avurudu”). In accordance with tradition several small houses made of bamboo and palm leaves were erected on the school grounds. They symbolise the New Year and are used for ceremonies. Traditional games were played and sweets served which were not only appreciated by the festively dressed school children. The afternoon was devoted to a musical performance with choirs and dances. On March 20, earlier than anticipated, the one world foundation studio opened the exhibition “for one world” showing the works created by Marcus Geiger at one world foundation within the framework of our Artist-in-Residence programme carried out in co-operation with Galerie Krinzinger (http://www.galerie-krinzinger.at). During his stay in Sri Lanka in February and March 2010, the artist created expressive paintings and objects and a series of extraordinary “kossas” (brooms). His work represents a successful synthesis of a European background with Sri Lankan influences. On May 9, an exhibition took place in Vienna showing the photographs taken by students of one world foundation while participating in a photography workshop run by the photographer Laurent Ziegler (see: http://www.owf.at/de/f-akt.html#3 and http://www.sitedefinition.at/fileadmin/paint4life). The exhibition was organised by Paint for Life (http://www.paint4life.at) and among the guests was Mr Srimal Wickremasinghe, Minister/Deputy Chief of Mission in Austria.
